Girardi & Redden = Fear & Loathing.
wd40January 13th, 2009 at 8:42 pm
Hey graves, what do you expect, Prucha hasn’t scored in the last six minutes, so what has he done to get ice time?
Renney is such a loser.
wd40January 13th, 2009 at 8:31 pm
Redden is a comedian. It’s almost like a punter whose jersey is completely clean while every other guy on the field is covered in mud.
wd40January 13th, 2009 at 7:52 pm
Yep, against a team as potent as the Isles both on the ice and in the standings, the ony way to beat em is to feel em out for the first period, weather the storm, then try to worm yourself into a nail-biter and hopefully take the shoot-out.
i love the sweater and the logo so much, but this bunch and their smarmy coach are awfully hard to like.
wd40January 13th, 2009 at 7:44 pm
that was pitiful, all in all.
wd40January 12th, 2009 at 11:26 pm
just for the record, I totally disagree with the idea that you have to play or have played organized hockey to know what you are talking about. I know plenty of people who have never been on skates but understand very well what is happening on the ice when they’re watching a hockey game.
wd40January 12th, 2009 at 10:44 pm
jjp, I was the tenth/eleventh forward on my college hockey team in the early 80s. We only played three lines regularly so I didn’t get many minutes. satisfied?
wd40January 12th, 2009 at 10:22 pm
jjp, when you write things like “from all reports [Prucha]has tons of ‘heart’ to play,” don’t you recognize you are outing yourself as a dope or a blind man??
Because if you need to refer to “reports” instead of taking in what is right before your eyes, something ain’t working right.
For the final time, the coach slashed Prucha’s playing time last season to a fraction of what he had had before Shanahan arrived …. and denied him power play time altogether. Why is it so frickin hard for you to understand that such moves will decimate production??
wd40January 12th, 2009 at 9:03 pm
jjp, what are your “facts?” On the one hand you say don’t cite the past in discussing Prucha, then you do just that in pimping for Renney. You wanna ignore 52 goals in Prucha’s first two years, but you wanna credit Renney for playoff appearances for those very same seasons.
This is why is its hard to take you seriously as an observer of this team, above and beyond the fact that your opinions are almost always weak.
wd40January 12th, 2009 at 8:00 pm
JJP, you’ve had 200+ games to see that Renney’s a second-rate coach, and you haven’t figured out that one yet. So the idea that 20 more games from Prucha is going to help you see the light there is pretty unlikely.
wd40January 12th, 2009 at 7:23 pm
Joe in DE, Amen. and beyond the nuts and bolts of his game Prucha also inspires the crowd with his guts and effort which is so important and which is a response no one else gets on this team except for Hank
wd40January 10th, 2009 at 8:34 pm
credit Renny for putting Orr out vs. Neil, the right thing to do
wd40January 10th, 2009 at 8:33 pm
“redden’s had another good game.”—- Sam Rosen, shaming himself even more than I thought possible, even from a shill like him 1/09/09
wd40January 10th, 2009 at 8:06 pm
Girardi cannot make that play. Awful
wd40January 10th, 2009 at 7:58 pm
“He sucked until a few games ago.” Right, while Drury and Gomez and Girardi and Roszi have been blazing a HOF path to glory.
wd40January 10th, 2009 at 7:41 pm
Anybody who still doesn’t recognize that Prucha is a winning hockey player is a stubborn or an ignorant human being…
wd40January 10th, 2009 at 7:31 pm
Good to see the Rangers are “feeling out” their very rough opposition tonight. Don’t want to overwhelm them or anything from the opening draw…
wd40January 10th, 2009 at 7:42 pm
new post
wd40January 10th, 2009 at 7:27 pm
Girardi and Redden have been horrible so far
wd40January 9th, 2009 at 10:51 pm
I don’t like Renny—- but the effort tonight was fine, and the play without the puck was much better. Did not like his shootout lineup (because Z hates to go first! and Naslund had a poor game! and Drury in the 3 slot is ridiculous). But you can’t lay this particular loss at Renny’s feet the way you can on so many other nights when the lack of preparation, motivation, effort and position is so clear
wd40January 9th, 2009 at 9:09 pm
Big test for Renney. If he plays for OT, we lose. If the Rangers are freed to play the same first 15 minutes of the 2nd in the first 15 minutes of the 3rd, they’ll win in reg.
wd40January 9th, 2009 at 8:58 pm
It was Dawes—- horrible braindead play
d40January 9th, 2009 at 8:56 pm
Did Dawes make that idiotic pass, or Staal?
wd40January 9th, 2009 at 8:54 pm
Buffalo has absolutely nothing tonight—- the NYR cannot give a point away tonight, much less two.
wd40January 9th, 2009 at 8:50 pm
Teams that are serious score on this PP and begin salting this game away.
wd40January 9th, 2009 at 8:48 pm
There’s Prucha, being one-dimensional again…
wd40January 9th, 2009 at 8:32 pm
Valley, leave the frickin puck alone behind the net!
wd40January 9th, 2009 at 8:31 pm
Prucha with a nice play to cover another Valley turnover
wd40January 9th, 2009 at 8:30 pm
hockeyman, I know what you mean
wd40January 9th, 2009 at 8:18 pm
riche, LOL
wd40January 9th, 2009 at 8:14 pm
this team actually looked reasonably well-coached that period. Let this be a sign of things to come
wd40January 9th, 2009 at 8:08 pm
Good shift by Z
wd40January 9th, 2009 at 8:03 pm
kaspar, as usual with MSG-TV it’s the twilight zone.
wd40January 9th, 2009 at 7:56 pm
“Valiquette’s been sharp around the net with the puck.” Sam and Joe are a riot
wd40January 9th, 2009 at 5:47 pm
gartner was unlucky. played on a lot of good Cap teams that always found a way to gas themsevles in the p’offs, then got shipped out of ny right before the cup run. great natural goalscorer.
wd40January 9th, 2009 at 3:45 pm
i’d do staal, hank and grachev for AO … and wash still wouldn’t bite. Duguay on TV said he thinks AO’s the best player he’s ever seen, bar none.
wd40January 9th, 2009 at 3:42 pm
one could easily say that fuhr’s shutout in game 1 at the Island in ‘84 was the hump that team finally got over. he was out of his mind in that game.
wd40January 9th, 2009 at 3:39 pm
Agree. Hasek over richter, much as i love him, without blinking. And Fuhr was an incredible acrobat, who faced a huge number of odd man rushes against
wd40January 9th, 2009 at 2:04 pm
yup, when beer me makes a post like that showing he just might not understand a very simple concept—- defensemen are allowed to pinch, and are to be covered by the high forward—- it worries me.
wd40January 9th, 2009 at 1:39 pm
“Beukeboom sucked on D.” Not an excess of wisdom in that statement, to put it gently.
wd40January 9th, 2009 at 12:14 pm
Hardy Aastrom!
wd40January 9th, 2009 at 12:07 pm
UES, going back a little further, how about Baker, Gratton, Terry effing Kleisinger!
wd40January 9th, 2009 at 12:04 pm
good discussion here. and it makes me think how lucky Giacomin was to get into the HOF when he did, without so many of the credentials goalies today cannot do without
wd40January 9th, 2009 at 10:52 am
toymaniam, you’re right about prucha of course. but you have to understand that some here, who seriously call him a ‘one-dimensional player,’ want to be taken seriously … and if they change their opinion based on something like the EVIDENCE (!) it doesn’t make em feel too good. lol
wd40January 9th, 2009 at 12:07 am
Hasek for two years may hvae been the best player in the world, so how he’s not on that list is crazy. richter was a very fine goalie, a cut below HOF but he;ll always have those wins over Martine.
wd40January 8th, 2009 at 5:54 pm
doodie—- I agree on richter, much as I admire him. And when you think about it, Giacomin’s numbers and body of work are pretty close to not being HOF worthy. The poor guy never really had one playoff run that topped his best play during the regular season. and on that list, he is surrounded by multiple Cup winners, except for Tony O.
wd40January 8th, 2009 at 10:38 am
parros, when a player’s ice time is slashed the way Prucha;s was the last two years because of Shanahan’s arrival, and his PP time is completely taken away, it has an impact on his confidence.
reminds me of Robitaille when he was here—- the only place where he didn’t score like a maniac before the age of 35. because Campbell never played him on the PP, where he’d made a living, and he was viewed as a disappointment. He wasn;t “set up” for success, and a lot of that blame as with Prucha goes to the man who doles out the ice time
wd40January 8th, 2009 at 10:33 am
Brandon wrote: “That was arguably our most complete performance of the year from our offense and defense. Everyone was firing on the same cylinder except for Hank.”
Wait a second. No question Hank was bad. but Staal had maybe his worst game of the season and girardi stunk too, so not sure where this is coming from.
wd40January 7th, 2009 at 11:27 pm
got to shake this off and prepare to out-hit out-skate and out-effort Buff on Fri.
wd40January 7th, 2009 at 11:01 pm
MAKO, I agree 100%, and you’re right it was Malone.
wd40January 7th, 2009 at 10:59 pm
alex, my guess is the Kalinin/Fritsche part of your deal would have to be sweetened to get Bouw and Horton, even with the UFA and RFA upcoming. But maybe not. it’s an interesting thought. Horton can play.
I hoped for a lot more improvement from Girardi this year, but the points have stopped coming and the defensive work on a nightly basis, aside from his willingness to hit, is not good far more than it is average. Dubi I would hate to give up on…
wd40January 7th, 2009 at 10:48 pm
why would Renny work a referee now, in a relatively low-importance game, when last spring in the playoffs Drury got opened up by a Penguin’s high stick, bled all over the ice, and mild-mannered Tom didn’t even bat an eye? Let it slide, had nothing to say to either ref. not one word.
wd40January 7th, 2009 at 10:05 pm
Voros is to my eye still out of shape, or his skating has degenerated to an even lower level of capacity…
man, just imagine what the NYR record would be if the goaltending was even close to how shaky it was tonight on a regular basis
wd40January 7th, 2009 at 9:56 pm
“we got no nastiness
none at all
roll over and die”
Kaspar, did you see Renny go behind the Washington bench the night they came back from 4-0 down to shake Boudreau’s hand and congratulate him after the game was over??? THAT’S the type of attitude that forbids nastiness and grit. ugh
wd40January 7th, 2009 at 9:54 pm
Staal with not his best game, LQ definitely with not his best game, Girardi was pretty putrid, Gomez half the player he was in NJ (again). Prucha has been good. Dawes has played hard
wd40January 7th, 2009 at 9:37 pm
when did the Ranger coach last doubleshift a player?? Has it happened this year once??
wd40January 7th, 2009 at 9:34 pm
Dawes was interfered with behind the net in the 2nd, right in front of the ref. Latendresse pulled down Callahan in the Ranger zone in the 2nd right in front of the ref. Roszival was hooked in the last minute of the 2nd.
wd40January 7th, 2009 at 9:30 pm
by the way, bench Voros. can’t skate and looks winded after fifteen seconds on the ice
wd40January 7th, 2009 at 9:29 pm
ouch. now look for the make-up calls by the refs once the game is out of reach
wd40January 7th, 2009 at 8:25 pm
wd40, hey nasty, that look works for Brad pitt, he reeled in angie with that doo
wd40January 7th, 2009 at 8:23 pm
Still shaking my head that someone like beer me can think Prucha is a 1-dimensional player
wd40January 7th, 2009 at 8:12 pm
graves9, you speak the truth about Girardi. and when he ain’t scoring to offset the defensive misplays, he is a net negative, given how much ice time he gets
wd40January 7th, 2009 at 4:41 pm
li joe, you’re posts are not exactly jessica alba to the eyes either, bub. lol
wd40January 7th, 2009 at 4:32 pm
beer me, as long as i can keep you slightly uncomfortable—as you ought to be, given your limited hockey sense-to-inflatesd ego ratio—i’m doing my job.
wd40January 7th, 2009 at 3:50 pm
prucha needs serious legit power play time to maximize his chance of helping this team win. and there is no reason whatever to deny it to him, given his track record and the shittiness of the present PP
wd40January 7th, 2009 at 3:00 pm
beer me has had the resolve to stick to his (negative) guns on Prucha, even though I think he’s nuts re: the topic.
can I ask others who wrote Prucha off (and you know who you are) and who have been quiet on the subject what thier current thinking is now?
wd40January 7th, 2009 at 10:44 am
jeever, aw shucks. I dunno, being as humble and nonconfrontational as i am its sort of hard to do what you’re asking me to do….lol
wd40January 7th, 2009 at 10:29 am
jjp, the thought that you are giving even five seconds of your free time to re-reading (!) me is tremendous. you do me great honor
wd40January 6th, 2009 at 8:57 pm
li joe, i dunno, the idea of “hating” someone because they differ with someone else’s opinions about a hockey team—- however crudely those disagreements are said—- is the definition of sad and lonely. and when you go and create a website because you’re so frustrated? man, that is sorrowful
wd40January 6th, 2009 at 8:37 pm
li joe—don’t you think “creating” the website gives me a little too much credit though?? I mean someone took the time to actually do such a thing?? guess the frustration of not winning the discussion with words became a bit too much
wd40January 6th, 2009 at 8:13 pm
li joe, come on, you can’t “despise” me, you effing hate me! lol
wd40January 6th, 2009 at 5:29 pm
line 5 above shoulda read ” not only NOT lost ground….”
wd40January 6th, 2009 at 5:28 pm
jeever, uhh no kidding. (Though any year you’re the Devils and you sweep the Rangers ou of the playoffs is not a terrible year). But the move if nothing else showed balls and a will to win——just as it did when he canned Ftorek and won the Cup with Robinson.
so your jury’s out on sutter, who has taken the likes of clemmenson and mottau and leach and clarkson and not only lost ground but made up miles on the Rangers, who have had no injuries and on whose coach if i’m not mistaken your jury has come back and you say he’s A-OK?
wd40January 6th, 2009 at 4:58 pm
incredible, lamoriello gasses julien with three games left in the season and the team 23 games over .500. God, for a little of that conviction/will to win over here across the river, right or wrong, win or lose.
wd40January 6th, 2009 at 4:55 pm
jeever, I guess anything is possible …. as long as the head coach is snapping the reins and not pulling back on them!
wd40January 6th, 2009 at 4:44 pm
brandon, I dunno, cam ward didn’t strike fear in the hearts of anyone the year the Canes won. 9and hasn’t since.) and Thomas’s numbers are amazing. but in general i don’t disagree with you about them being anything but a slam dunk Cup finalist.
wd40January 6th, 2009 at 4:08 pm
and re: in-game adjustments, i meant renny’s inability to counter the opposition’s hot player with a match-up or a 2-man forecheck, for example, rather than simply mixing up lines, and also things like trying to run the clock out in a 4-0 game at home against an injury-riddled team that was dying to get hammered 7-1.
wd40January 6th, 2009 at 4:05 pm
jeever, i dunno. just off the top of my head, wilson in toronto has benched blake, stevens has benched hartnell, ruff in buffalo benches veterans all the time
wd40January 6th, 2009 at 3:54 pm
beer me, I don’t think he’s a good coach. Because:
1) Plays not to win but to not lose
2) Evaluates talent very questionably
3) Zero in-game adjustments
4) A self-professed defensive coach who cannot seem to implement a disciplined consistent structure that does not rely on an all-world goalie to stop 20+ scoring chances a game
5) Treats favored vets differently from younger players, leading to a lack of team unity and focus
wd40January 6th, 2009 at 3:47 pm
flynn, you missed my point in your attempt to Wizard-of-Oz yourself as a hockey genius. the technical failures of renny will always be there; no one is more aware of that than me. but when the Rangers play hard and with emotion, it tends to distract people from what is obvious to people like you (and I) who think he’s a minor leaguer.
also, as much as i disrespect this coach and management, i think ‘dismal’ is too harsh a term to describe what Renny and even Sather brought about between ‘05-’06 and the end of last season.
wd40January 6th, 2009 at 1:53 pm
so much wind would be taken out of the sails of the anti-Renney crowd if the team simply played with the emotion and purpose and urgency that was shown last night. In other words, all the breakdowns leading to odd man rushes, all the poor positional play when without possession of the puck, etc. would be so much easier to stomach if the team wore its heart on its sleeve as it did often last night
wd40January 5th, 2009 at 10:05 pm
Where are all the Renney droolers now?.....Oops, wrong outcome for my sorry old rant.
I’m so cool I put together this awesome collection of my quotes athttp://wd40sucks.blogspot.com
