Ugly start, countless turnovers in the defensive end all period long, a terrible penalty in the offensive zone by a player who ought to be in the ECHL. That’s Renney hockey.

cakewalk, my father (who saw his first Ranger game in 1932!) was at that game when Hadfield went over the glass, and the next morning he couldn’t stop talking about it while I was eating my cornflakes. But I didn’t know that Emile and Vic were not on speaking terms, is that really true? Very sad if so, life is too short.

kaspar, wasn’t nick beverley the chump the NYR got for Hadfield? I remember that Sunday aft in ‘74 too well. The Rangers scored the first goal but were chasing it from that moment on. seeing Hadfield laugh in the box was killing; as I recall he was chatting up the sin bin attendant.

Amazing game/win. Hank was unreal, good to see Drury live up to his role. I just hope Renny makes his point in the postgame. Refs who respect and fear coaches would never call a game like the one they just called on our coach. And he has to change that perception NOW, before the playoffs.

jjp, you play hockey, don’t you? Then you should know from pee wees that you don’t play the puck carrier, you play the other guy, leaving the goalie to take one guy, the shooter. Doesn’t matter if it’s Kane or Gordie Howe, you can’t make the goalie have to sweep across the crease to deal with a pass getting rhough to the second guy. Hockey 101.

jjp, I agree with you on the talent level. Look at MSG’s vault for Rangers games in the 70s. Half the guys can’t skate as well as Colton Orr. At least 70% of the problem with lower goal scoring is due to outsized goalie equipment.

Beer me, as usual you’re wrong. Two examples just off the top of my head: Brooks wrote for weeks that Prucha should be in the lineup before he was put there; Brooks wrote that the power play needed to be practiced before it finally was again.

CCCP and kaspar, i totally agree on Washington and how they play at a pace and with a hunger that the Rangers under Renny can’t even imagine. It is not just their talent but the mindset——a coach that plays to crush and not to “feel out” the opponent. What a concept.
